This class will focus on preparing children for Kindergarten while working with children who are at the Kindergarten level in preparing them for first grade. We will focus on phonics and teaching them to read for those who are ready. We will work on math skills consisting of recognizing numbers and counting to 100 among other math skills as well. We will dabble into science and history. We will utilize imaginary play, books, games, puzzles and manipulatives for learning fun. Character building skills will also be taught as well as units on community helpers and more. Social and emotional development is important at this age and will be developed and nurtured in this class. All children must be fully potty trained.

Students will grow in their appreciation for the written language as they approach writing from a variety of angles. Students will be given engaging activities and prompts that will help them improve their handwriting, composition, creative writing, and even typing. Students will do best in this class if they are, at minimum, comfortable writing a full sentence.

In this middle school course, students will learn about the scientific method, habits, classifications, and do investigations (experiments). Topically, they will learn about plants and trees, anatomy and physiology, mammals, birds, fish, reptiles and amphibians, insects, invertebrates, cells and genetics, and ecology. Healthy living is covered and focuses on making choices regarding nutrition and regular exercise, viruses, first aid, and emotional health. Drug use and abuse is also covered.

Students will become confident essay writers as they delve into the details of the essay-writing process. From thesis statements to transitions, introductions, and conclusions, students will learn the building blocks of a well-crafted essay. Students will also gain a solid background in literary analysis—what to look for when we read a work of literature, the literary devices commonly used by authors and why they work well, and how authors succeed in conveying tone, theme, character, irony, point of view, and so forth.

In this culinary arts class your child will increase their kitchen vocabulary through hands on baking and cooking experiences. In this class, they will be learning several different measurements and their abbreviations. They will learn in a safe environment how to identify different knives and their specific cuts (example: juliene, small/large dice, batonnet, brunoise, mince). They will also learn different cooking methods (example: boil, steam, roast, bake, sauté, fry). This class will explore the different elements of the kitchen in a fun laid back way showing the beauty of foods, recipes, tradition, math, and science and how they all come together in the kitchen.

Health is an upper level course on total health. This course covers what maturing students need to know to help them make the best choices they can for themselves as they become young adults. This 15-module text covers the physical, nutritional, emotional, and spiritual aspects of growing into a healthy adult. Students will study the systems of the human body, senses, genetics, temperaments, and the physical influence on thoughts and feelings. The course respectfully covers mental illness and emotional stability, as well as the value of human beings, our culture, our gender roles, our families, socialization, communication skills, and conflict resolution skills. Students will gain an in-depth knowledge of both macronutrients and micronutrients, including the importance of exercise and proper diet.Health is ever changing but we'll use new information as it becomes available.
